Minoa, New York: Stupid Dumb Breast Cancer’s 5th Annual Bunco Babes against Breast Cancer features dice, drinks, food, prizes, boobs, and as the participants have come to expect on an annual basis, way too much fun for a weeknight! On Wednesday, March 8, five dozen rambunctious ladies will gather again at Trappers II in Minoa to raise awareness and funds for those in the CNY community whose lives have been impacted by cancer. Proceeds from the event will be contributed directly to CancerConnects, a nonprofit organization that provides free programs and services for cancer patients throughout CNY. “Seats fill up quickly, because everyone knows it’s a blast” says SDBC Founder Ann Marie Giannino-Otis. “Much more than just a night out with friends, our 60-player Bunco extravaganza is an opportunity to help the people of our community. You might even get to wear a tiara!”
Bunco Babes Against Cancer kicks off with registration and seat assignments at 6:30 PM. Play begins at 7 PM sharp. Ann Marie promises amazing prizes for first, second, and third place winners, as well as a grab bag, raffle, and lively cameraderie among new and old friends. In addition to its usual offerings, Trappers II will feature cocktail specials, just for this occasion. “Register early,” she says. “You don’t want to miss this.” A $20 non-refundable fee is required in advance to reserve a place in the festivities.
What is Bunco? According to the website www.buncogame.com, Bunco is “a game centered around three dice and sets of four players. It is a game of pure luck…played in upbeat and social settings involving a lot of eating, drinking, and talking.” Requiring no real skill (great news for newcomers!), the game “provides a great reason for a group of people to gather and socialize.” Once you’ve played a round or two, the site says, “it becomes easy to understand that it’s the atmosphere, friendships, and chance to have some genuine fun that makes it an enjoyable past-time that demands an encore!”
Founded in 2012, Stupid Dumb Breast Cancer is Ann Marie Giannino-Otis’ fierce and unconventional initiative to promote awareness, research, and advocacy, with a focus on the ravages of metastatic cancer and the people who fight it. On behalf of SDBC, Ann Marie has been featured in area publications, appeared on TV (including MSNBC’s NewsNation with Tamron Hall), local radio, and Huff Post Live, and she hosts a series of monthly events. Since its inception almost two years ago, SDBC has raised and contributed over $100,000 to a variety of cancer organizations, including Stand Up to Cancer, Duke Hospital, Wilmot Cancer Center, the Upstate Cancer Center, Cancer Connects, Maureen’s Hope Foundation, and Jill’s Wish. Ann Marie currently serves as community manager for Wisdo and social media advisor for Lyfebulb.
Ann Marie communicates regularly with a growing network of patients, their loved ones, and supporters via a variety of social media, where she candidly shares her thoughts and experiences, and welcomes others to join the conversation, discover their own strengths, and discuss their journeys.
